Never Again

Never Again

September 11, 2025

We all remember that morning and can recall exactly where we were when it happened. Twenty-four years ago today, I was stationed in Del Rio, Texas, taxiing a plane out for a training mission with a student Pilot whose brother was working in one of the Twin Towers.

Our entire nation was shaken by events that remain forever etched in our collective memories. Today, we pay our respects to all those who perished, the families who live with that loss, and the countless acts of courage and compassion that arose from the darkness of that day.

For those of us who wear the airline Pilot uniform, the legacy of September 11 is not just one of remembrance but one of responsibility. Aviation safety is the foundation of our profession. It is not a tagline. It is not a buzzword. It is an imperative.

On this solemn anniversary, I have just returned from an annual aviation event in Washington, D.C., where SWAPA shared our commitment to keeping one level of safety and security at the forefront of national policy, ensuring that tragedies of this magnitude may never happen again.

We owe it to those no longer with us to maintain the unity that was our nation’s strength in the days that followed. May we continue to stand together — as Pilots, as professionals, and as Americans — to champion safety in every discussion.

Amid this tragedy, we set aside the issues that divide us. It was testament to the undeniable fact that in the presence of evil, America’s resilience stands unwavering. Today, please take a moment to remember those we lost, cherish those closest to you, and recommit yourself to believing that “never again” remains our shared promise to keep our skies safe.
