SWAPA to Hold Informational Picket at SWA’s Investor Day In NYC

December 02, 2022

(DALLAS) — On December 7, the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA) will be conducting an Informational Picket during Southwest’s Investor Day in New York City.

This demonstration of unity is an attempt draw Southwest Airlines investors’ attention to the continued operational inefficiencies that plague the carrier and the fact that its pilots are operating under an industry-lagging contract that needs to be amended so that the carrier can compete in attracting and retaining pilots in an ever-shrinking pool of candidates. The need for a new contract is imperative as Pilot fatigue rates continue to hover at all-time highs as the largest domestic carrier heads into the busy holiday travel season.

The pilots of Southwest Airlines have been in direct contract negotiations with the company for nearly three years and filed for federal mediation in September of this year. By conducting an Informational Picket, the pilots wish to highlight — once again — the company’s deviation from its core values of taking care of its employees and force the company to bargain in good faith and in the best interest of the airline.
