Southwest Airlines Pilots Voice Support for American Airlines Pilots in Dispute over Shared Reward
(DALLAS) - The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA), representing more than 5,400 pilots of Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV), today expressed strong support for efforts by American Airlines pilots to make good on the promise of shared reward for shared sacrifice.
“Southwest Airlines pilots are fortunate to work for an airline with an outstanding management team—one that understands the value of shared reward,” SWAPA President, Capt. Carl Kuwitzky, said. “We wholeheartedly support our fellow professional pilots at American Airlines in their efforts to hold their carrier’s management accountable. A promise made should be a promise kept.”
The 12,000 pilots of American Airlines (NYSE: AMR), represented by the Allied Pilots Association, are holding a rally and march on their airline’s Fort Worth, Texas corporate headquarters today to draw attention to multi-million-dollar bonuses that executives will receive tomorrow. Meanwhile, the pilots and other front-line employees at American Airlines have given up more than $7 billion in pay and benefits since the airline’s out-of-court restructuring four years ago.
“It’s no mystery that properly rewarded employees provide outstanding customer service, and the airline business is all about customer service,” Kuwitzky said. “Accordingly, we urge American Airlines’ management to carefully consider the consequences of their actions—or, more appropriately, their inaction—on the vital issue of shared reward.”
SWAPA, headquartered in Dallas, TX, is an independent Union which represents more than 5,400-plus pilots of Southwest Airlines. |
